While students are virtually learning, the Davis School Counseling Department is still available to support our students and their academic, social, and emotional needs. Mrs. Plomaritis and Ms. Bernier will be available for immediate consultation through email during virtual office hours Monday through Friday from 9:00-10:30. They will also be answering emails and concerns received outside of virtual office hours within 24 hours (usually much sooner).  If you find that your student/family is struggling emotionally, academically or financially during this time please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Plomaritis ( Alison.plomaritis@cobbk12.org ) or Ms. Bernier ( Kathy.bernier@cobbk12.org ).  Many resources are included on our counseling website including information for those in need of food, internet or additional services.  You can find our counseling website on the Davis website under counselors or at this link http://www.cobbk12.org/Davis/counselors.aspx. Thank you and we hope to see you all soon!

Month of March

By the end of this week all second grade students will have signed our “Place for Peace” banner promising to be kind and respectful to all.  The banner will be hung in the hallway to remind students of their promise to make Davis a Place for Peace. Mrs. Plomaritis will be in all second grade classrooms this month talking to the students about how to stay safe online as well as how to be a good digital citizen.   Please talk to your child about what they learned and how a good digital citizen behaves online.  A great website is www.commonsense.org if you would like more information about this topic.

Month of February

During the month of February and kicking off our 9th annual “Make Kindness Cool” Week, our school is joining forces with the CSCA (Cobb School Counselor Association) to sponsor a drive to collect items for two non-profit organizations that help children and families. We would like to help The Ronald McDonald House and Kate’s Club. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost, being able to focus on the health of their child. Kate’s Club provides a positive, uplifting environment to help grieving children ages 5 – 18 experiencing the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. Since February is Random Acts of Kindness Month and next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, we will be encouraging students to focus on kindness, respect and appreciation of each other. We are asking each grade level to donate specific items as listed below to help these 2 organizations. If you would like for your child to participate, please send in the item listed below for the grade level of your child, starting next week and continuing until the end of February. Thank you for your support and generosity.

Kindergarten – Breakfast Items (Cereal and Breakfast Bars)
1st Grade - Individually Packaged Snacks
2nd Grade – Microwavable Lunch Items (non-perishable shelf items i.e. Mac & Cheese cups)
3rd Grade – New Puzzles or Books on Various Reading Levels
4th Grade – New Small to Medium Stuffed Animals
5th Grade – New Movies (Rated G)

We will have 2 theme days during the week as described below:
TUESDAY (2-11) - “Think of Kind Acts To Do”
Wear your favorite cool hat.
FRIDAY (2-14) - “Kindness Makes Your Heart Glow”
Wear red, pink or purple.

~Participation in the theme days and service project is much appreciated.~
Contact one of the counselors, Ms. Bernier or Mrs. Plomaritis if you have any questions.

Month of January

Mrs. Plomaritis will be in all second grade classrooms teaching the students about their social filter.  They will learn about their thinking bubble and their talking bubble and how to use their social filter in between the two.  Ask your child if they have been using their social filter.

Mrs. Plomaritis will be in all second grade classrooms teaching the students about making goals.  They will discuss why making goals is important and will come up with their own short or long term goal.  Ask your child about their goal and their plan for achieving it.

                        Month of December

Mrs. Plomaritis will be coming into all the classrooms this month to talk to the students about conflict resolution.  Being able to resolve conflicts with others is a skill that students will need throughout their lives. Ask your child if they can name one strategy to resolve a conflict.

Please remember to send in nonperishable food items and toiletries for our Lassiter Pantry Food Drive this week and next week.  Thank you for your help!

                        Month of November

     Community Pantry Campaign

                                                                  November 11th – 22nd

This year Davis Elementary will be partnering again with Must Ministries to help meet the needs of students & their families right here in the East Cobb Area. We are among several of our neighboring schools who are collecting items to fill the Pantry at Lassiter High School. Must Ministries establishes food pantries within local schools for an easier access to families in need of assistance. Items collected at Davis will go to the pantry at Lassiter High School due to a need in our community. This campaign will teach students the importance of helping others in need and the value of working together. Students will learn that no matter how large or small their contribution is to the campaign, when we work together and each does his/her part; we can make a BIG difference. We want each child to walk away from the campaign feeling like they have made a difference in the life of another child. We are asking each child to assist his/her homeroom in collecting 100 food or toiletry items. This is the time of year we set aside to help our neighbors in need by helping to fill their pantries. Items most desired are listed below. Please help us meet our goal of collecting 2700 items by November 22nd. We have exceeded this goal for the last 7 years.  Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. To add some fun to the drive, the class in each grade who brings in the most items will receive a special prize. We’ve listed below some examples of items needed.

No expired items please!

Thank you
