Our Learning Adventures for the Week:

Phonics: This week is a review of initial/final blends and consonants/diagraphs. Think of 2 consonants together at the beginning and ends of words. Remember that we will take a dictation assessment at the end of each week. This week is practice and will not count as a grade.

Here are the spelling words:

grab, club, spun,chip, trip, tank, dash, left, frost, runt

Reading: As we look through books/stories, we will looking for the main idea and details. The students will also get practice on asking and answering questions. You may know this as the who, what, when, where, why and how questions. This is a good skill to practice when reading at home as well.

Grammar: Each week we will be using mentor sentences to guide us through our grammar lessons. At the end of each week, there will be an assessment on the skill. Make sure and review any skills missed on this paper. We continue to identify common and proper nouns. Find common and proper nouns in your house or around town.

Writing: As we continue to practice the routines of writing, we will review how to revise writing. A good way to revise this week at home is making sure that each sentence has a capital letter and punctuation. At the end of the week, we will begin with our personal narrative unit.

Math: We continue with number sense this week. On our agenda is comparing numbers. This is using the <,>,= signs. Continue to work on place value, expanded notation, and base ten blocks. Practice comparing numbers of all forms;

800+ 40+ 9 ? 8 + 4 + 9

Science: Did you know that everything is made up of matter? There are 3 forms: solid, liquid, and gas. We will be learning all about this subject. Ask your child to tell you the attributes of each form.
