Grammar: We will be learning about past tense verbs. Past tense verbs refer to actions or events in the past. They can be regular verbs that simply end with a "d" or an "ed" or they can be irregular and change their spelling to show the past tense.

Phonics: We will be learning about oa words in phonics this week. oa word says long o. Red words for the week are: certain, through, finally, favorite Please practice red words at home and also the meaning for each word. Red words do not follow learned patterns or rules. Therefore it is important to memorize how to spell them. We do not sound these words out. We identify them by letter names. Example: was w-a-s not /w/ /u/ /z/. Practice at home writing the words in fun ways, tracing them, or even jumping them out.

*Phonics assessments are on Thursday. The new phonics rule is introduced on Friday.

Reading: We will be learning about Author's Purpose this week. An author's purpose is the reason for or intent in writing. An author's purpose may be to entertain the reader, to persuade the reader, or to inform the reader.

Writing: This 9 weeks is going to be a mixture of narrative, informational, and opinion. We will also be working on poetry to end the 9 weeks.

Math: This week we will be learning about 2D shapes and their attributes? The word "2D shape" is referred to "two-dimensional shape". Thus, a 2D shape is a geometrical figure that has two dimensions which are length and width. The two-dimensional shapes have no thickness. The concept of two dimensions can be thought as a flat surface on which one is able to move anywhere. This flat surface is known as a plane. A two dimensional shape is something that always lies on a sheet of paper. A 2D shape has no height, therefore it does not fall above the piece of paper. These shapes are also known as plane shapes or plane figures.

*Timed addition and subtraction test are normally given on Wednesdays.

Science: We will be learning about how animals are classified and the life cycles of different animals as well. All life cycles include birth, growth, reproduction and death. Some animals are born live, while others hatch from eggs.
