Our Harvest Lunch is November 10th. Please return your Harvest letters as soon as possible so the school can get a head count and be prepared for the big day.

Phonics: No spelling words this week! Review patterns that your child had trouble applying earlier in the year.

Reading: As week look at informational books we will identify non-fiction text features. Students will be features that can be found in non-fiction books. Examples include table of contents, glossary, and boldface words. See if your child can find these features at home when reading.

Grammar: We will be focusing on proper nouns as we work with our mentor sentence. Students seem to identify proper nouns (names of people, places, and things) in isolation, but do not apply this to their writing. Look to use proper nouns in writing prompts.

Writing: We continue to focus informational writing. This week we are all about spiders! Each child will choose a type of spider, identify facts, and write a informational paragraph about that spider. We will make fact hats and create our own spiders!

Math: Students will finish up working on two step problem solving to 20. We will continue to use the 4 square where they are to produce a picture, number sentence, strategy and explanation in words as to how they found their solution. For two step word problems they will have to identify what comes first and what comes second. We will have a little fun with practicing word problems by become construction workers. On Wednesday we begin learning strategies to add 2 digit numbers.
