Phonics: Spelling pattern for the week are words with the oi sound. Words will be spelled with oi and oy. Here are the words to study: point, broil, boy, joint, spoil, toy, enjoy, poison, oyster, rejoice. Remember that challenge words will be different words that but contain the oi/oy patterns. High Frequency words for the week are: big, both, left, must, plant, play.

Reading: Our reading skill for the week is cause and effects of events in a story. Cause and effect definition is simply an action with a reaction. When an event occurs, its effect impacts the course of the story, often changing the character or later events of a story dramatically. Cause and effect are also very important to plot, moving the action forward.

Grammar: Our next part of speech we are learning about is reflexive pronouns. A reflexive pronoun is used with another noun (or pronoun) when something does something to itself. For example :John pinched himself. The reflexive pronouns are myself, yourself, herself, himself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves.

Writing: Students will continue working on informational writing. Once finished with the informational book from this past week they will create their own mini book on a topic of their choice.

Math: We will continue with measurement this week. The students will be working on adding and subtracting with measurement.

Social Studies: Our next Georgia hero is Mary Musgrove. We will learn about how she became the go between the English settlers and Creek Indians and how she became General Oglethorpe's and Chief Tomochichi's interpreter.
