Phonics: Spelling pattern for the week are words with the ou/ow sound. Here are the words to study: down, shout, mouth, town, sprout, south, surround, powder, outside, sundown. Remember that challenge words will be different words that but contain the ou/ow patterns. High Frequency words for the week are: don't, head, last, put, saw, school, took.
Reading: Our reading focus this week will be on Author's Point. The Author's Point is what the author is trying to prove in the text. It is usually how the author feels, or what the author believes. They prove their point by supporting it with reasons in the text.
We will also focus on how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
Grammar: No grammar skill for the week.
Writing: The second graders will be working on some fun holiday pieces this week which include how they would feel trapped in a snow globe, a fun story on how their snowman melted and what the students will do to light up the world in kindness this holiday season!
Math: We will be graphing using line plots this week and also learning to tell time on an analog clock. We will focus on telling time to the half and quarter hour before the break.
Social Studies: The students will be learning about the contributions Tomochichi made to Georgia's history. They will also be collaborating together to create a skit involving Mary Musgrove, James Oglethorpe and Tomochichi to show how they all worked together.
