Phonics: This week we will be focusing on how to make words plural using s, es, or ies. The spelling words for the week are: spices, acorns, apples, dishes, classes, taxes, watches, ponies, and cities. High Frequency words are children, girls, need, should, soon, those.
Grammar: We will be looking at silent letter combinations and how to recognize them while reading and use them correctly in writing. They are kn, wr, gn, lk, mn, and gh.
Reading: Before the break we were looking at Point of View in relation to who was telling the story. This week we will be reading stories and discussing how the characters point of view differs from other characters in the story. The students will also be deciding on what point of view they hold after reading a story.
Writing: The students will be writing persuasive letters this week to showcase their opinions. The students will be deciding on a topic, learning the parts of a friendly letter and doing their best to persuade another person on that topic. Look out for a letter to come home, I have a feeling some will be addressed to mom or dad. :)
Math: The students will be using the strategies of place value to add 2, 3 and even 4 two digit numbers together.
Science: We will be continuing to learn about the parts of our solar system focusing on the moon this week. We will be learning facts and the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies.
