2nd Grade Play will be March 16-make sure to send in your child's costume by Tuesday, March 14th. We will have a dress rehearsal for the school on Wednesday morning. Call time Thursday night is 5:45.
Phonics: This week we will be focusing on word endings; -ed and -ing. The spelling words for the week are: helped, helping, printed, printing, sliced, slicing, joked, joking, dropped, dropping, clapped, clapping. Notice the double consonant that is added when a word ends with a consonant. High Frequency words are another, close, four, high, home, run (s).
Grammar: We will review possessive nouns and contractions. We will do this by reviewing apostrophes. The students need to know the difference between a possessive (showing ownership) and a contraction (joining 2 words together).
Reading: This week we will compare and contrast non-fiction stories. We will use the words alike, similar, same, and different to compare information.
Writing: We are finishing up with persuasive writing with a letter about our favorite Dr. Seuss book. The students should be able to use information of letter writing that was modeled last week to write it own their own.
If time permits we will do some fun St. Patrick's Day writing at the end of the week.
Math: It's all about time! We have touched on time to the hour and half hour, now we will be learning time to the nearest 5 minutes! This is something that you can definitely work on at home! You won't be late anywhere!
Science: We had a successful week in the Learning Commons! 2nd grade rocked on our stars, sun and moon projects! The kids also enjoyed presenting them to the other classes on Friday.
Next week we are teaching specific lessons as a part of career week. Some examples of careers we are required to teach are technology, arts, health and.... teaching!
**We also look forward to a Minute to Win It St. Patrick's Day celebration on Friday. Make sure to wear green that day!!
