Week of March 20-24
Important Reminders:
-If you have any dried up markers or caps, please send them in with your child. We send those off to be recycled.
-Class Placement/Parent Input letter is on our Davis website. These letters are due back to Mrs. Havrilla by April 10. Hard copy only will be accepted, not an email.
Phonics: This week we will be focusing on word endings; -er and -or. The spelling words for the week are: paint, painter, write, writer, farm, farmer, act, actor, sail, sailor, visit, visitor, swim, swimmer, run, runner, rob, robber, teach, teacher. High Frequency words are another, answered, different, later, while
Grammar: This week will be working on proper nouns. Proper nouns have two distinct features: They name specific one-of-a-kind items, and they begin with capital letters, no matter where they occur within a sentence.
Reading: This week we will be working on cause and effect. We teach cause and effect every time we help a young child recognize a relationship between two things, or when we demonstrate that one event is the result of another.
Writing: This nine weeks will be reviewing narrative, informational, and persuasive genres in our writing. The students will also be working on a writing portfolio with all three writing pieces in it.
Math: We are starting Geometry this week. Starting with 2D shapes and their attributes. Their will be lots of hands on activities as we go through Geometry. The students will love it
Social Studies: We will be starting our economics unit over the next two weeks and ending it with a bang, Kid Town! The students will be given jobs for two weeks and paid for their jobs. They will also having a savings plan and some unexpected expenses. At the end they will use their money to purchase items during Kid Town. This is always a fun unit and lots of learning about goods, services, and allocations.
