Important Reminders:
-If you have any dried up markers or caps, please send them in with your child. We send those off to be recycled.
-Class Placement/Parent Input letter is on our Davis website. These letters are due back to Mrs. Havrilla by April 10. Hard copy only will be accepted, not an email.
Phonics: This week we will be looking at word endings
-er and -est. We will be focusing on them in spelling as well as reading to discuss how they change the meaning of words. Ex. tall, taller, tallest
Spelling words for the week: round, rounder, smooth, smoother, light, lighter, funny, funniest, early, earliest, pretty, prettiest, sad, sadder, hot, hottest, late, later
High Frequency words: animals, both, talking, those, thought, walked
Grammar: This week will be continuing to work on proper nouns. Proper nouns have two distinct features: They name specific one-of-a-kind items, and they begin with capital letters, no matter where they occur within a sentence. Some students struggled last week with proper nouns for things. names of books, movies, games, sports teams.
Reading: we will be continuing to work on cause and effect. We teach cause and effect every time we help a young child recognize a relationship between two things, or when we demonstrate that one event is the result of another.
Writing: This nine weeks will be reviewing narrative, informational, and persuasive genres in our writing. The students will also be working on a writing portfolio to go with them to 3rd grade with all three writing pieces in it. We will be wrapping up a review of narrative this week before the break.
Math: last week we learned all about 2d shapes and their attributes. This week we will look at 3d shapes and then move into how we can partition rectangles and circles into equal pieces.
Social Studies: We will be starting our economics unit over the next two weeks and ending it with a bang, Kid Town! The students will be given jobs for two weeks and paid for their jobs. They will also having a savings plan and some unexpected expenses. At the end they will use their money to purchase items during Kid Town. This is always a fun unit and lots of learning about goods, services, and allocations. please see the sign up genius to see if you can help out on Friday!
