Important Reminders:
-If you have any dried up markers or caps, please send them in with your child. We send those off to be recycled.
-Class Placement/Parent Input letter is on our Davis website. These letters are due back to Mrs. Havrilla by April 10. Hard copy only will be accepted, not an email.
Phonics: This week we will be looking at the word ending -y. We will be focusing on them in spelling as well as reading to discuss how they change the meaning of words.
Spelling words for the week: ease, easy, squeak, squeaky need, needy, gloom, gloomy, snoop, snoopy, goof, goofy, jerk, jerky, thirst, thirsty, worm, wormy
High Frequency words: air, don't, near, thought, took, went
Grammar: This week will start working learning about past tense irregular verbs. We will be learning how certain verbs change to past tense. For example see to saw. We will be playing games to practice.
Reading: We will learn about making connections to what we are reading. We will being making the following connections: text to self, text to self, text to world, and text to media. The students will practice by reading books and making connections as they read.
Writing: This nine weeks will be reviewing narrative, informational, and persuasive genres in our writing. The students will also be working on a writing portfolio to go with them to 3rd grade with all three writing pieces in it. We will be wrapping up a review of narrative this week before the break.
Math: We will apply what we learned about partitioning and apply it to learning about fractions. We will be learning how to partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths.
Science: This week we will be jumping back into science as we do activities celebrating Earth Day. We will learn about ways we can help the Earth. Specifically talking about recycling. On Friday students are asked to bring in one recycled item, (yogurt cup, milk carton, egg carton, etc) and we will be changing it into another item.
