Phonics: This week we will be continuing to look at the words with prefixes. We will be focusing on the prefix -re in spelling as well as reading to discuss how they change the meaning of words.

Spelling words for the week: paint, repaint, pay, repay, group, regroup, new, renew, turn, return, check, recheck

High Frequency words: again, car, earth, food, important, let, something

Grammar: This week we will be working on context clues. Context clues are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.

Reading: Our reading focus this week is comparing and contrasting two different texts that were written about the same topic. Students will be recording their findings using a graphic organizer.

Writing: This nine weeks will be reviewing narrative, informational, and persuasive genres in our writing. The students will also be working on a writing portfolio to go with them to 3rd grade with all three writing pieces in it and also to share with you at our Author's breakfast.

Math: This week we will be finishing up on making arrays. An arrangement of objects, pictures, or numbers in columns and rows is called an array. Arrays are useful representations of multiplication concepts. This array has 4 rows and 3 columns. It can also be described as a 4 by 3 array. We will also be reviewing 3 digit addition/subtraction using the old school "stacking" method. :)

Science: We will be continuing on learning about life cycles but moving our focus to plants! We will be learning about the parts of plants as well as how they grow!

Science: We will continue the unit of life cycles! This is fun because we get to explore animal and plant life cycles. For the next two weeks we will study the life cycles of amphibians, mammals, insects, and birds.
