Reminder that conference week is next week which means early dismissal. Early dismissal is 12:20 each day. Due to early dismissal and conference week there will be no Team Homework in your child's red folder today. Instead there is a project due on October 27th. A note went home in regards to this project. Please email if you have any questions about the project.
Grammar: This week's focus will be a review of the first 9 weeks skills.
Spelling: There will be no spelling words or test this week. In class we will review words using the long /a/, /e/, & /i/.
Reading: We will be finishing up Sequence of Events using signal words (first, second, next, last). Sequencing is one of many skills that contributes to students' ability to comprehend what they read. Sequencing refers to the identification of the components of a story — the beginning, middle, and end — and also to the ability to retell the events within a given text in the order in which they occurred. The ability to sequence events in a text is a key comprehension strategy, especially for narrative texts. Sequencing is also an important component of problem-solving across subjects.
Writing: This 9 weeks focus will be Informational Writing. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books.Another difference between informational writing and other forms of nonfiction is that it does not involve characters. Informational writing does not generally focus on a person's life in the way a biography does. Instead, it usually provides information about the natural or social world
Math: We will continue place value this week. We will focus on skip counting, comparing, ordering numbers, identifying more and less, how to show numbers in different ways to 1,000, solving one step word problems , and also learning how to solve two step word problems.
Social Studies: We learned about the Creek and Cherokee Native Americans this week. Your child has an at home project that is due October 27th. We would like your child to create something showing what they learned about either the Creek or Cherokee Native Americans. We ask that you please let your child do the project independently as much as you can. We can't wait to see what they create. There is a form that is going home today and it has listed what has been assigned for your child. They can use their booklets that we created in class, the internet, or MackinVIA (which you can locate from our Davis Media Center website.
