Grammar: This week's focus will be on Pronouns. Pronouns are used in place of a noun. For example: Kate was tired so she went to bed. Michael took the children with him.
Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on /ōō/ syllable. Here is the regular word list: brew, soup, blue, clue, blew, group, cashew, cartoon, pursue. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: through, enough, off, soon, try, why. Some students have a modified list: soup, group, you, brew, blew, flew, crew, cashew. The sight words they should practice are: off, soon, try.
Reading: We will be focusing on Author's Point. When writing, authors must decide from what point of view they want to express their ideas. There are three different choices – first person, second person, and a variety of third person point of views. The type of pronouns and the genre can be a clue when identifying the author’s point of view.
Writing: This 9 weeks focus will be Informational Writing. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books.Another difference between informational writing and other forms of nonfiction is that it does not involve characters. Informational writing does not generally focus on a person's life in the way a biography does. Instead, it usually provides information about the natural or social world . This week students will be picking a topic off of PebbleGo and writing an informational piece on it.
Math: Our focus this week will be learning how to measure with different units. The different units are: centimeters, inches, feet, and meters. We will also be solving word problems using the different units as well.
Science: This week's focus will be on Pushes and Pull. You can’t see them, but forces make the world go round. When you push a friend on a swing, you are using another force. Pushing moves something in the direction of the push. The harder the push, the further the item goes. Pulling something has a similar action. The harder you pull, the faster something moves along. We have some great activities that we will be doing!
