Grammar: This week's focus will be on rhythm & alliteration. Rhythm is the pattern of stresses within a line of verse. All spoken word has a rhythm formed by stressed and unstressed syllables. When you write words in a sentence you will notice patterns forming. Alliteration only occurs when consonant (not vowel) sounds are repeated in words close to each other. These words may be within the same phrase, clause, or sentence, or they may occur on successive lines (as in poetry or lyrics).Tongue twisters are a well-known use of alliteration. Example:Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on /ô/ syllable. Here is the regular word list: claws, small, boss, draw stall, gloss, salty, bossy, jigsaw. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: head, last, near, really, school, under, us. Some students have a modified list: claw, flaw, draw, straw, stall, small, call, jigsaw, baseball. The sight words they should practice are: near, last, us.
Reading: We will be continue our focus on making inferences. Making an inference involves using what you know to make a guess about what you don't know, or reading between the lines. Readers who make inferences use the clues in the text along with their own experiences to help them figure out what is not directly said, making the text personal and memorable
Writing: This 9 weeks focus will be Informational Writing. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books.Another difference between informational writing and other forms of nonfiction is that it does not involve characters. Informational writing does not generally focus on a person's life in the way a biography does. Instead, it usually provides information about the natural or social world .
Math: Our focus this week will be on line plots and graphs. A line plot is a graph that shows the frequency of data occurring along a number line. Line plots provide a quick and easy way to organize data and are best used when comparing fewer than 25 different numbers
Social Studies: We will continue to focus on Goods, Services, and Allocations. Goods are items that are tangible, such as pens, salt, shoes, hats and folders and Services are activities provided by other people, such as doctors, lawn care workers, dentists, barbers, waiters, or online servers. The student's will also learn how goods and services are allocated (by price, majority rule, contest, force, sharing, lottery, command, first-come, first-served, personal characteristics).
