Georgia Parent Survey

All Davis parents are asked to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey. It contains 24 questions and can be completed using a computer, smartphone, or tablet. Information from this survey will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating which is a part of the Davis Elementary CCRPI score. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education. Parents may select a Spanish version also. Grammar: We will continue focusing on producing, expanding, and rearranging complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy)

Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on plurals. Here is the regular word list: spices, acorns, apples, dishes, classes, indexes, watches, ponies, cities. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: children, girl, need, should, soon, those. Some students have a modified list: benches, mixes, buzzes, passes, frogs, brushes, sinks, blasts . The sight words they should practice are: girl, soon, need

Reading: We will reading Folktales this week. A folktale is a popular story that was passed on in spoken form, from one generation to the next. Usually the author is unknown and there are often many versions of the tale. Folktales comprise fables, fairy tales, old legends and even 'urban legends'. We will be learning how to identify the central message, lesson, moral, and point of view of a story.

Writing: This 9 weeks focus will be Opinion Writing. The purpose of an opinion piece is to convince your audience to agree with your opinion. Introduce the topic or issue. State your opinion clearly. Give more than one reason to support your opinion. We will continue working on our opinion pieces.

Math: Our focus this week will be on solving 1 and 2 step word problems. We will work on identifying the start, change, and results of the problems. We will also work on different strategies to solve word problems.

Health: Our focus for Health this week will be on Dental Hygiene. We will learn why it is important to keep our gums and teeth clean. At the end of the week we will be visited by a dentist who will also reiterate the importance of healthy teeth.
