Grammar: We will focus on producing, expanding, and rearranging complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy)

Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on contractions. Here is the regular word list: she’s-she is, it’s-it is, you’re-you are, weren’t-were not, won’t-will not, didn’t-did not, you’ve-you have, they’ve-they have, we’ve-we have. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: again, letter, need, never, thought, until, while. Some students have a modified list: she’s-she is, it’s-it is, you’re-you are, weren’t-were not, won’t-will not, didn’t-did not, you’ve-you have, they’ve-they have, we’ve-we have . The sight words they should practice are: again, never, until

Reading: We will reading Fables this week. A fable is a tale, mostly short, that teaches a lesson. Often, fables conclude with a moral that summarizes the lesson in plain language. We will be learning how to identify the central message, lesson, moral, and point of view of a story.

Writing: This 9 weeks focus will be Opinion Writing. The purpose of an opinion piece is to convince your audience to agree with your opinion. Introduce the topic or issue. State your opinion clearly. Give more than one reason to support your opinion. We will continue working on our opinion pieces.

Math: Our focus this week will be on adding four 2-digit numbers using place value. The students will be using different strategies to help them with this standard.

Social Studies: Our focus for Social Studies this week will be on Juliette Gordon Low. She was the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA, with help from Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting Movement. Low and Baden-Powell both shared a love of travel and support of the Girl Guides. Juliette Low joined the Girl Guide movement, forming a group of Girl Guides in the United States in 1897.
