Grammar: We will be reviewing ELA standards from the 3rd nine weeks.
Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on -er, or endings. Here is the list: paint, painter, write, writer, farm, farmer, act, actor, sail, sailor, visit, visitor, swim, swimmer, run, runner, rob, robber. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: another, answer, different, later, while. Some students have a modified list: paint, painter, write, writer, bake, baker, farm, farmer, read, reader, act, actor, sail, sailor, visit, visitor. The sight words they should practice later, while, another.
Reading: We will continue to learn to identify the point of view. The point of view of a story is the perspective from which a story is told. Writers may choose to tell their story in on of three perspectives: First person: using "I" or "we,"Third person: "he," "she," or "it," which can be limited or omniscient, Second person: "you," the least common point of view.
Writing: We will be finishing up Opinion Writing this nine weeks. The purpose of an opinion piece is to convince your audience to agree with your opinion. Introduce the topic or issue. State your opinion clearly. Give more than one reason to support your opinion. We will continue working on our opinion pieces.
Math: We will working on word problems with money. Please help us by reviewing coins with your children and counting them as well.
Science: We will be working on details for our butterfly garden. We are so excited to help save the Monarch Butterflies.
