Grammar: Our focus will continue on Context Clues. Context clues are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
Spelling: Spelling this week will focus on -y endings. Here is the regular list: easy, squeaky, needy, gloomy, snoopy, goofy, jerky, thirsty, wormy. The high frequency words are 2nd grade words that need to be spelled correctly when writing. They are: air, don't, near, thought, took, went. Some students have a modified list: dirty, bumpy, windy. thirsty, salty, sleepy, gloomy, needy. The sight words they should practice air, don't near.
Reading: We will continue focusing on Cause and Effect and Making Connections. A cause-effect relationship is a relationship in which one event (the cause) makes another event happen (the effect). Example of Cause and Effect: Cause-The girl didn't do her homework. Effect-She had to work on it during recess.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will be working all three genres of writing: Narrative, Opinion, and Informational.
Math: We will finish up arrays this week and start even and odd numbers. Arrays are useful models for multiplication and repeated addition. An array is formed by arranging a set of objects into rows and columns.
Science: We will be continue working on Life Cycles this week. We will be learning about Life Cycles of Mammals, Amphibians, Reptiles, and Birds.
