Grammar: We will continue focusing on past tense verbs and irregular past tense verbs. Past tense verbs refer to actions or events in the past. They can be regular verbs that simply end with a "d" or an "ed" or they can be irregular and change their spelling to show the past tense.
Spelling: There will be no spelling list or test this week. Please review high frequency words from the past list.
Reading: We will focus on Comparing and Contrasting different stories this week. To contrast something is to look for differences among two or more elements, but compare is to do the opposite, to look for similarities.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will be working all three genres of writing: Narrative, Opinion, and Informational. At this time we are working on narrative writing.
Math: We will be working on identifying 3D shapes and their attributes. 3D shapes are solid objects that have three dimensions. These dimensions are length, width, and height. While 2D shapes are flat, 3D shapes objects that have depth to them. A soccer ball is a 3D shape, also known as a sphere, while a circle on a piece of paper is a 2D shape. Examples of 3D shapes are spheres, cubes, prisms, cones, and pyramids.
Science: We will be focusing on Earth Week this week. Our lessons will be focused on What is Earth Week and How can we help keep our Earth clean. On Friday we will be planting our Butterfly Gardens to help bring back the Monarch Butterflies that are endangered.
