Grammar: Our focus this week will be on Suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters added at the end of a word which makes a new word. ... In the table above, the suffix -ful has changed verbs to adjectives, -ment, and -ion have changed verbs to nouns.
Spelling: No spelling words or test this week. We will be working on suffixes.
Reading: We will finishing up on Main Idea this week. The main idea is the point of the paragraph. It is the most important thought about the topic. To figure out the main idea, ask yourself this question: What is being said about the person, thing, or idea (the topic)? The author can locate the main idea in different places within a paragraph.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will be working all three genres of writing: Narrative, Opinion, and Informational. At this time we are working on narrative writing.
Math: We will be using stacking and place value strategies to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers this week.
Social Studies: Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for work to find peaceful solutions.
