Grammar: This week focus will be on Singular and Plural nouns. A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea, while a plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea. This weeks focus will be mainly on to make regular nouns plural, by adding ‑s to the end. Example: cat, cats
Spelling: We will be working on short vowel, cvc (e, i, u). When a vowel is trapped by a consonant at the end, the vowel will say his short sound. Practice your words at home and also practice creating other CVC short e, i, u words. You can make up nonsense words too. Give your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: wet, get, win, rub, cut, hut, sun, fix, rug, dim, pig, hen. Nonsense Words: mig, fen, gep, tup, wex, sib, zet, mup vim. Red Words: see, was, there, of, his.
Reading: We will continue learning to identify main idea and supporting details in a story. The main idea is the point of the paragraph. It is the most important thought about the topic. To figure out the main idea, ask yourself this question: What is being said about the person, thing, or idea (the topic)? The author can locate the main idea in different places within a paragraph. The main idea is usually a sentence, and it is usually the first sentence. The writer then uses the rest of the paragraph to support the main idea. The supporting details are the things that describe the main idea. •hese supporting details make the main idea stronger.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will focus on narrative writing. We will begin our OUCH! narrative piece this week and continue working on 6+1 trait writing skills.
Math: We continue with number sense this week. On our agenda is comparing numbers. This is using the <,>,= signs. Continue to work on place value, expanded notation, and base ten blocks. Practice comparing numbers of all forms; 800+ 40+ 9 ? 8 + 4 + 9
Science: We will continue focusing on the properties of matter and how matter changes. Matter is everything around you. We will be doing some fun experiments showing how a solid changes to a liquid, how a liquid changes to gas, and how a liquid changes to a solid.
