Grammar: We will be continue contractions this week. A contraction is a word or phrase that's (that has) been shortened by dropping one or more letters. In writing, an apostrophe takes the place of the missing letters. Ex: can not=can't, have not=haven't

Spelling: We will be working on words that are have -ng and -nk endings. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: king, hung, tank, sling, stung, honk, rang, think, skunk, prong, sank, sunk. Nonsense Words: slonk, tunk, grung, plonk, pring, mung, thonk, chank, shink. Red Words: many, people, very, because, why.

Reading: We will focus this week on citing evidence in text. Citing textual evidence requires students to look back into the text for evidence to support an idea, answer a question or make a claim. Citing evidence requires students to think more deeply about the text, analyze the author, source etc.

Writing: This 9 weeks we will focus of informational writing. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books. Informational text is often organized so the reader can easily and quickly find information. This week will be working on an informational writing on turkeys.

Math: We will continue our focus on 2-digit subtraction and also working on word problems that have both 2-digit subtraction and addition in them. We will continue to use strategies to subtract and add 2-digit numbers. We will be using base ten blocks, partial sums, number line, decomposing and expanding form. Please refer to pamphlet that was shared with you at parent conferences or you can also find it on the homepage of the Davis website. If have any questions feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.
