Grammar: We will be learning about reflexive pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are words ending in -self or -selves that are used when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same (e.g., I believe in myself). They can act as either objects or indirect objects. The nine English reflexive pronouns are myself, yourself, himself, herself, oneself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves.
Spelling: We will be working on words that are have e at the end, known as magic "e". Magic E Rule: The magic E rule states when the letter “e” sits at the end of the word, it is usually silent and the “magical” E tells the first vowel or the preceding vowel to say its name or long sound. The magic e vowels are as follows: a_e, i_e, o_e and u_e. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: bite, plane, quote, slide, grape, gave, kite, scrape, wipe, quite, globe, home, skate, cube, bake. Nonsense Words: no more nonsense words. Red Words: friend, through, one, before, write.
Reading: We will focus this week on rhythm and alliteration. Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sounds at the beginning of words that are in close proximity to each other. This repetition of sounds brings attention to the lines in which it is used, and creates more aural rhythm.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will focus of informational writing. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books. Informational text is often organized so the reader can easily and quickly find information. This week will be working on an informational writing on one of the four important historical figures we learned about.
Math: We will be focusing on measurement and what type of measurement tools we use to measure length, weight, capacity and temperature. Measurement using non-standard units is used to reinforce concepts and provide building blocks to understanding the use of standard measurement units. Both the customary and metric systems are covered.
Science: This week will be learning about Force of Motion. Force can be defined as a push or a pull that changes or tends to change the state of rest or uniform motion of an object or changes the direction or shape of an object. It causes objects to accelerate or add to their overall pressure. In simple terms, it is a push or a pull on an object that takes place when two objects interact. It is the basic cause of motion from rest.
