All Davis parents are asked to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey. It contains 24 questions and can be completed using a computer, smartphone, or tablet. Information from this survey will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating which is a part of the Davis Elementary CCRPI score. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education. Parents may select a Spanish version also. Grammar: We will be working on adverbs this week. An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, adjective, determiner, clause, preposition, or sentence. Adverbs typically express manner, place, time, frequency, degree, level of certainty, etc., answering questions such as how?, in what way?, when?, where?, and to what extent?.

Spelling: We will be working on r-controlled words this week with ar and or. When a vowel is followed by the letter R, the sound of the vowel changes. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: ar: spark, chart, garden, harsh, scar, start, target, harm or: fork, storm, forget, porch, north, forty, born, horn. Red Words: don't, both, away, who

Reading: We will be working on fables this week. A fable is a short story that expresses a moral--some type of widely applicable life lesson. Typically, the main characters in a fable are personified animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature.

Writing: This week we will begin Opinion Writing. We will be working on a piece where the students have to form an opinion on whether to save the ant or squish it from the book Hey Little Ant.

Math: We will working on adding up to 4-2 digit numbers this week. We will review the partial sums strategy and teach the students how to add the digits using this strategy.

Social Studies: This week will be learning about civil rights and discussing who is Martin Luther King Jr. and why he is important.
