Georgia Parent Survey
All Davis parents are asked to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey. It contains 24 questions and can be completed using a computer, smartphone, or tablet. Information from this survey will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating which is a part of the Davis Elementary CCRPI score. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education. Parents may select a Spanish version also. Grammar: We will be working on both adjectives and adverbs this week. An adjective describes a noun. An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, adjective, determiner, clause, preposition, or sentence. Adverbs typically express manner, place, time, frequency, degree, level of certainty, etc., answering questions such as how?, in what way?, when?, where?, and to what extent?.
Spelling: We will be working on r-controlled words this week with er, ir, & ur. When a vowel is followed by the letter R, the sound of the vowel changes. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Reading: We will be working on folktales this week. Folktales, which are stories or legends passed from generation to generation by word of mouth.
Writing: This week we will begin Opinion Writing. We will be continue on our opinion piece about should the boy stomp the ant or not.
Math: This week we will working on identifying coin and counting money. It will include this nine weeks quarters and dollars. Practicing counting at home will help a lot.
Social Studies: This week will be learning about Jackie Robinson. Jack Roosevelt Robinson was an American professional baseball player who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Brooklyn Dodgers started him at first base on April 15, 1947.
