Grammar: We will be working on expanding sentences this week by adding adjectives to the sentences. Some students are still struggling with capitalization at the end of the sentence, punctuation at the end, and making sure they have both the subject and the predicate. A good way to practice at home is giving your child sentences using our spelling pattern of the week and going over each sentence to make sure they are including all parts of a sentence.

Spelling: We will be working on ai & ay words. ai says long a at the beginning or the middle of a word. ay says long a at the end of a word. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: ai: pail, chain, aim, drain, maid, trail, paint, retain. ay: play, gray, day, stray, stay, display, ray subway. Red Words: going, through, upon, today, found.

Reading: We will continue identifying the central message, lesson, moral, and point of view of different stories this week. We will also compare and contrast different fairy tales as well.

Writing: This week we will begin Opinion Writing. We will be choosing between two different versions of Goldilocks and write our opinion on the version they chose.

Math: This week we will working on adding three digit numbers with regrouping. We will use our strategies that we have learned this year to help us solve the problems (base ten, partial sums, chunking, and decomposing).

Social Studies: We will be learning about Juliette Gordon Low who was the founder of the Girl Scouts of America. She was born in Savannah Georgia and is an important figure in Georgia History.
