Week of March 11th

March 14th is picture day. We will take class pictures and then spring individual pictures. Spring individual pictures are PRE-PAID ONLY. If you want an individual picture taken you will need to fill out the form and send it back to school prior to picture day. If you do not want an individual picture taken it is not required. The fall picture is what picture will be in the yearbook. You can order a class picture only if they choose not to have an individual picture taken.

Grammar: We will continue learning about shades of meaning. How can you tell the difference between the words 'mad' and 'upset'? Both show emotion, but one is stronger than the other. Shades of meaning distinguish, or tell the difference between similar words.

Spelling: We will be working on ea & ee words. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: ea: weak, cream, dear, dream, meat, stream, heal, year. ee: week, street, deer, queen, meet, sweep, heel, greed Red Words: when, again, buy, been, after

Reading: We will be working on the Comparing and Contrasting two different versions of a Fairy Tale.

Writing: We will finish up this 9 weeks in Opinion Writing. Students will have a few topics to chose from for their final Opinion Writing Piece.

Math: This week we will continue working on adding and subtracting three digit numbers in word problems. We will use our strategies that we have learned this year to help us solve the problems (base ten, partial sums, chunking, and decomposing).

Social Studies: We will be learning about shadows and how to use shadows to tell time.
