Grammar: We will be learning about irregular past tense verbs. A verb in which the past tense is not formed by adding the usual -ed ending. Examples of irregular verbs are sing (past tense sang ); feel (felt ); and go ( went ).
Spelling: The spelling words this week will be oa words. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: oat, loaf, boat, load, coat, soak, toad, oak, roam, road, goat, moan, foam, loan. Red Words: toe, doe, hoe, foe, goes, aloe
Reading: We will be working on the main idea of a paragraph this week. The main idea is the point of the paragraph. It is the most important thought about the topic. The author can locate the main idea in different places within a paragraph. The main idea is usually a sentence, and it is usually the first sentence. The writer then uses the rest of the paragraph to support the main idea
Writing: This 9 weeks is going to be a mixture of narrative, informational, and opinion. We will be working on creating a narrative story this week. We will review and discuss the beginning, middle, and end. We will also be discussing transition words, a hook, and a closing.
Math: This week we will be learning about partitioning circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares and be able to describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths.
Science: We will be learning about how animals are classified and the life cycles of different animals as well. All life cycles include birth, growth, reproduction and death. Some animals are born live, while others hatch from eggs.
