Grammar: We finish up learning about irregular past tense verbs. A verb in which the past tense is not formed by adding the usual -ed ending. Examples of irregular verbs are sing (past tense sang ), feel (felt ), and go ( went ).

Spelling: The spelling words this week will be ow words. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: low, grow, mow, bowl, yellow, throw, grown, blown, flown, follow, window, shadow, mellow, fellow, thrown, pillow Red Words: goes, would, should, could

Reading: We will be working on comparing and contrasting this week in reading. To contrast something is to look for differences among two or more elements, but compare is to do the opposite, to look for similarities.

Writing: This 9 weeks is going to be a mixture of narrative, informational, and opinion. We will be starting informational writing this week. Our topic will be on either a reptile, bird, mammal, or insect. We will locate information in text for research.

Math: This week we will be learning about arrays. An arrangement of objects, pictures, or numbers in columns and rows is called an array. Arrays are useful representations of multiplication concepts. This array has 4 rows and 3 columns. It can also be described as a 4 by 3 array. This array has 5 rows and 4 columns.

Science: We will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Butterflies go through a life cycle. A butterfly has four stages in its life cycle. Each stage is different. Each stage also has a different goal. A butterfly becoming an adult is called metamorphosis. The life cycle process can take a month to year. It depends on the type of butterfly.
