Grammar: We will be working on Context Clues this week. Context clues are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word within a book. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers or it may follow in the next sentence

Spelling: The spelling words this week will be aw words. You can practice at home by giving your student phrases and sentences to practice. You say the sentence, have the student repeat, then pound their hand for each word they hear as they repeat with you again, then have them write. Check for capital at the beginning of the sentence, stretch the words, space the words, and punctuation at the end. Green Words: law, flaw, paw, straw, thaw, squaw, hawk, lawn, raw, pawn, claw, bawl, draw, seesaw, dawn slaw Red Words: being, bought, thought, does

Reading: We will continue working on comparing and contrasting this week in reading. To contrast something is to look for differences among two or more elements, but compare is to do the opposite, to look for similarities.

Writing: This 9 weeks is going to be a mixture of narrative, informational, and opinion. We will be starting informational writing this week. Our topic will be on either a reptile, bird, mammal, or insect. We will locate information in text for research.

Math: This week we will continue learning about arrays. Particularly using addition to find the total number of objects arranged in a rectangular array. An arrangement of objects, pictures, or numbers in columns and rows is called an array. Arrays are useful representations of multiplication concepts. This array has 4 rows and 3 columns. It can also be described as a 4 by 3 array. This array has 5 rows and 4 columns.

Science: We will be learning this week about how to take care of Mother Earth. Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. We will be celebrating all week by doing different activities in regards to what is good for the Earth. We will end our week by working in our 2nd grade butterfly gardens and getting our plants and flowers planted.
