Grammar: We will be starting this week learning about common nouns. A common noun is a non-specific person, place, or thing. For example, dog, girl, and country are examples of common nouns.
Phonics: We will begin phonics this week by reviewing consonants and short vowel sounds. We will teach the SOS(simultaneous oral spelling) process with the red words. Red words are words that do not follow a pattern we know.
Reading: We will be learning about Beginning, Middle, and End in a story. The beginning= setting the scene where characters are introduced and setting is described. The beginning includes who, when and where. Middle= development plot which what is happening. Ending= how the problem was resolved, a reflection on what happened.
Writing: This 9 weeks we will learn about narrative writing and discussing how a checklist can help. As we continue to practice the routines of writing, we will review how to revise writing. A good way to revise this week at home is making sure that each sentence has a capital letter and punctuation.
Math: We will be learning how to represent numbers differently through number form, base 10 form, expanded form, and word form. Number form=134, base ten form= using base ten blocks, expanded form=100 + 30 +4, and word form=one hundred thirty four.
Social Studies: We will be focusing on healthy food choices and then diving into exploring Georgia and looking at what we will be learning in SS this quarter.
