Grammar: We will continue learning about Plural nouns this week. A plural noun is a word that indicates that there is more than one person, animal place, thing, or idea. When you talk about more than one of anything, you're using plural nouns. When you write about more than one of anything, you usually use the same word, simply adding an s, es, or ies to the end.
Phonics: We will be working on Ending Blends. An ending blends is 2 consonants blending together at the end of the word; you can still hear each sound) Examples of ending blends: sand, lunch, jump, dent, chest, wilt. Examples of ending blends nonsense words: tump, felp, clunch, thend, brust. Red words for the week are: who, into, both, of. Please practice red words at home. Red words do not follow learned patterns or rules. Therefore it is important to memorize how to spell them. We do not sound these words out. We identify them by letter names. Example: was w-a-s not /w/ /u/ /z/. Practice at home writing the words in fun ways, tracing them, or even jumping them out.
Reading: We will continue learning about analyzing characters. Character analysis is when you evaluate a character's traits, their role in the story, and the conflicts they experience. Authors will also reveal character traits, which are a character's behaviors, motivation, personality types, and their relationships with others throughout the story.
Writing: We will finish working on our OUCH story this week and starting our Boo story. The students will be choosing a time when they were scared and then writing about it. We will continue to learn how to edit and also write a final draft.
Math: We will learn how to solve one step word problems in addition and subtraction this week. We will talk about expectations and steps to solving word problems.
Social Studies: We will continue to focus on locating and comparing the regions and rivers of Georgia. The state of Georgia extends from the Atlantic Ocean into the Blue Ridge Mountains. The state is divided into five regions based on its physical geography. The regions are the Coastal Plain, the Piedmont Region, the Blue Ridge Region, the Valley and Ridge Region, and the Appalachian Plateau.
