Grammar: We will be learning about reflexive pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are words ending in -self or -selves that are used when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same (e.g., I believe in myself). ... The nine English reflexive pronouns are myself, yourself, himself, herself, oneself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves.

Phonics: This week we will learn about bossy r! When a vowel is followed by an r, the r changes the sound that the vowel makes. The vowel is called an r-controlled vowel. That is why we refer to the “r” as the “bossy r” because the r “bosses” the vowel to make a new sound. When the “a” is followed by r, it makes the sound you hear in “bar” or “car”. When the “o” is followed by the r, it makes the sound you hear in the word “corn”. The “ir”, “ur” and “er” make the same sound /er/ as in the words “bird”, “fur” and “her”. Red words for the week are: write, friend, every, does. Please practice red words at home. Red words do not follow learned patterns or rules. Therefore it is important to memorize how to spell them. We do not sound these words out. We identify them by letter names. Example: was w-a-s not /w/ /u/ /z/. Practice at home writing the words in fun ways, tracing them, or even jumping them out.

*Phonics assessments are on Thursday. New phonics rule introduced Friday.

Reading: We will continue learning about Author's Point. The author's point is what the author is trying to prove in the text.

Writing: The students will work on informational writing this 9 weeks. Informational writing is a type of nonfiction writing that conveys information about something, which means it is factual. Many examples of informational writing can be found in newspapers, almanacs, and reference books. ... Informational text is often organized so the reader can easily and quickly find information.

Math: We will be focusing on measurement and what type of measurement tools we use to measure length, weight, capacity and temperature. Measurement using non-standard units is used to reinforce concepts and provide building blocks to understanding the use of standard measurement units. Both the customary and metric systems are covered.

*Timed addition and subtraction test are normally given on Wednesdays.

Social Studies: This week will be learning about Mary Musgrove. Mary Musgrove was of mixed Yamacraw and English ancestry. She facilitated in the development of Colonial Georgia and became an important intermediary between Muscogee Creek natives and the English colonists.
